Being a birth doula is not about meeting the clinical or medical needs of a labouring woman but it is about taking care of the emotional side of birth – it is about providing confidence, support and empowerment, it is about listening and hearing, it is about helping women and their birth partner to feel safe. With this comes the continuous one to one support, which is beneficial for labouring women and their partners because that creates feelings of ongoing safety, confidence and the ability to stay calm.
The emotional side of birth is often overlooked and it really shouldn’t be – enable a labouring woman to feel calm, confident and empowered and she can take on the world.
There are a couple of booking options:
You can book me as your doula in pregnancy and this package includes two antenatal meetings, birth support and a postnatal visit as well as being on call for you from about 37 weeks.
If you have attended any of my antenatal classes, you can book me as a last minute doula. You can contact me for support in labour and, if I am able, I will be your additional birth partner.
I am based in North Shields and I cover Tyneside. If you would like to find out more please don’t hesitate to get in touch…
